The story behind the book
It started as a book for my kids.
I never set out to become an author. I set out to write something for my children.
I wanted my children to have more than a list of things I thought they should do. I wanted them to understand where those lessons came from. Sometimes that meant telling stories where I made the right call. Sometimes it meant admitting I was absolutely certain and absolutely wrong.
The more I wrote, the more I saw that these weren't just my stories. Most people have a memory they wish they could redo, someone they wish they'd listened to, or a choice that taught them something the hard way.
I'm not trying to be the person with all the answers. I'm trying to be the person willing to tell the story as it happened, including the parts that make me look less than brilliant.
If one of my kids reads these stories someday and thinks, maybe Dad had a point, mission accomplished.
What it turned into.
The book covers fatherhood, family, relationships, careers, money, loss, success, failure, regret and perspective. It is not a franchising book. That one is coming.
If someone outside my family reads it and feels a little better knowing that none of us really knows what we're doing, that's pretty good too.
